I need Photographic/Consumer advice...

A friend of mine is giving me a hyper sweet deal on camera bodies. And of course, my initial choice was the d300, eventhough, alot of people are urging me to get a d3 and being the brat that I am, I know I really want a d3, but if practicality were to rule, if I were to get a full frame cah-meh-ruh, I would either wait for the d700 or get a Canon 5d.

So, now that the d3 is out of the picture, I now need to choose between the d80 and the d300.

If I were to get the d80, I know that I'd probably still keep it even when the d700 comes out leaving me with three camera bodies... With 3 DSLRs, I'm sure one is bound to be left out and I know that that's not going to be my current d40 (aka Dee) as I love that camera with the life of me.

Now, If I were to get the d300, I will probably opt to sell that once the d700 comes out. And I know they say that the d700 is not a replacement, but something in between the d3 and the d300, but since I'm not made of money and I'm dead set on getting full-frame (I seriously contemplated getting a Canon 5d, just for full-frame lovin'... Still contemplating.), I know I won't be able to keep a d300 and a d700 all at the same time.

Sooo... If I do get a d300 and then sell it when the d700 comes out, how many people would be interested to buy it and at what price would I be able to sell it? (I'll sell it to Dox for AED7000. Bwahahaha. But that's a special price. Nyahahaha.)

If I get the d80 (as a third camera! Highly impractical), I know that I'll want to kick myself, because I have a feeling that the d90 is going to come out very very very soon and the d80 would then be at a totally different price and I'd be all like, "Crud. Crud. Crud."

Hence, I have no idea what to do now.

Help?

  1. hahahah.. ops sorry... been there... number cruching, justifying and thinking waaaaaaaaay ahead....

No matter what you do.. you will always find a "better" deal in the future...

i just went with "what would make me happy"... i know it is an emotional response but... if i am "happy" then no matter what happens... the "shadow of regret" will not overwhelm my joy...

Besides... marami naman naka abang... like me... ano kamo... D300 for 700AED????? JOKE!

  6. Bwahahaha.

Isa lang DSLR ko ngayon. Tas meron akong SLR na di ko nagagamit. Kaya alam ko na pag nag-three DSLR bodies ako sayang lang.

  7. oo aeheheehe i already test d300......oks na oks..

  8. Oo. Oks na oks nga. Na-test ko din yung sa boss ko, pinakuhanan n'ya sa'kin yung Porsche Cayenne n'ya at nainlab ako... Hahaha. Pero ok lang ba yun? Bibilin ko s'ya for a couple of months tapos pag labas ng d700, benta ko lang s'ya ulit? :)

  9. Wag ka nang mag 5D... you've already made substantial investments in Nikkor lenses... if you buy the 5D, that will mean you have to also include Canon lenses... impractical na masyado, especially considering that the full-frame lenses are very expensive.

I'm also waiting for the D90.... I really really like the D80, but the D90 is basically a cheaper D300 (superior sensors), and so I'm gonna get that if kaya sa budget.

But if money were no consideration, definitely, I will go for the D300.

  10. go for d300 even d700 comes out.

masarap ang full frame and im having the urge to get one too... BUT, if you have DX lenses.. nde mo ma-maximize ang usage (sayang lang full-frame factor nun...). i'll focus on purchasing lenses instead since camera bodies has higher depreciation value and it will be obsolete in few years time. going back to topic, d300 is definitely a workhorse for enthusiast and casual pros.

in any case, you still have the final word on which to purchase. good luck!

  11. I re-read your post.... considering the factors, I definitely think you should get the D300, if only camera bodies are the concern. Value for money, the D300 is a really sweet deal.

However, if you are eyeing to buy good lenses, save your money and get the D80 instead. You can use the cost savings to buy any of the Holy Trinity Lenses (the f/2.8 FX glass.... sweet!)

When you do upgrade to a full frame body, the FX lenses will help you maximize your D3

  12. Yeah, totoo. Isa sa mga nagpipigil sa'kin to get the 5d is yung lens factor.

    Thanks, Jan. :)

  13. Maraming salamat po, Master Jeff! :)

I value your opinion kasi I know you've used both the d80 and the d300.

    Salamat!

  14. Wow. Daming boto sa d300.

Hehehe. Looks like I'll be getting the big boy. :) Hihihi.

  15. Ang hirap mag isip ng ganun. Nikon D-80 nga pinapangarap ko. Ikaw meron ng tatlo. o_O

    ReplyDelete
  16. Magiging tatlo palang kung d80 ang bibilin ko. Hahaha. Apat pag lumabas ang d700...

Pero I think as per the feedback dito plus ang mga reviews sa net, I'm gonna go with the d300. I think it's a good choice na rin.

  17. if you need it now, get the d300.
    if not, go for d700.

in this case, $$$ and time are the considering factors.
but what makes you happy, irregardless of $ and time, brings out the verdict.

    p.s.
    we share the same dilemma.

  18. Haha. Wow. Salamat. I thought I was the only one. :) I'm thinking get the d300 now and then sell it when the d700 comes out (or keep it if I fall in love with it.) Hehe. Thanks sa input.

  19. They've said it all.. hehehe :D

    Just my 2cents:
If you are going to get the D300 now and sell it when the D700 comes out, might as well wait for a while.. since D700 will come out in a couple of months..yet, spending on a D700 body will also make you spend for the FX lens. Therefore, if you are going to get a Nikon Full Frame body irregardless of D3 or D700 you will also get FX lens.. in which it would be better to just get the 5D since it is cheaper plus the canon full frame lenses. But if you aren't going to get full frame lenses, then just get the D300. In terms of picture quality, D700 and D300 are almost alike.. except maybe for the ISO range..

  20. the only bit differs us, i dont consider canon. hehe
    no offense meant.

gudlak. when u get one anew, pacheeseburger ka na. :D

    ReplyDelete
  21. Hahaha. I was only considering Canon for the full-frame benefit sa super murang price, otherwise, Nikon talaga ako... Having played with both cameras, I can safely say that Nikon is easier to use and has better colors and white balance control. Pati narin ang display sa likod. Ang pangettt ng display ng Canon. Ehem. Sorry, Canon users, pero totoo lang, panget talaga. Di maintindihan kung madilim or maliwanag.

Hehehe. I think I'll go for the d300 na, since hindi pa naman ako bibili ng mamahaling lenses, medyo ok pa ako sa lens set ko now... However, I want a second body NOW. Hahaha.

Best wishes din sa'yo at sa decision mo. :)

  22. Do you seriously want to buy a d300?

The thing is, I'm being offered a very good deal for it, kaya ako nam-mroblema and tatlo na lang daw ang stock. Haha.

They're selling the body for 6.2k - 6.5k. Direct dealer/importer sila ng Nikon Japan and sila ang nags-supply sa Grand Stores.

The hitch is walang receipt and walang warranty, pero pwede naman iinspect for as long as you want before you hand over the cash. :) And they'll change it if there's anything wrong, as long as the problem isn't caused dahil nabagsak s'ya. :)

If you're interested let me know, I'll tell my friend when he calls me up for my decision. Pa-reserve ko na yung dalawa. Hehehe.
